Letters of Recommendation Tips

  • Choose individuals who are most familiar with your academic performance or research abilities and interests. Faculty members would be a first choice, followed by mentors, coaches, supervisors, etc.
  • Meet with those you select and provide a copy of your resume and description of the opportunity.
  • Recommendation letters take time to compose, so request them well in advance of deadlines.
  • Email or write a note of thanks to those individuals who write your letters.

NOTE: Letters of recommendation are not required unless specifically requested.
